The College of Internet Distance Education is now
relocated at the 9th Floor of the Srisakdi Charmonman
I.T. Building which was auspiciously inaugurated
by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on August
20, 2004. The plan was to develop the institution
in stages covering four phases viz. Phase 1, 2002-2003,
Phase II, 2003-2004, Phase III 2004-2005 and Phase
IV, 2005 onwards and the projection for the last
phase is to offer electronic learning to 100,000
students per year made up of 20,000 students with
Assumption University programs, 20,000 students
with Asian programs, 20,000 students with North
American programs, 20,000 students with European
programs and 20,000 students with Australian &
New Zealand programs.
Assumption University
has 26 IT related programs which incidentally is
larger than in any other university in the world.
For us, Information Technology is not only a field
for concentration, investment and further development
but also the main impetus and mechanism for expanding
the university from a top business center to a paradigmatic
I.T. institute of the Southeast Asia region. It
is our hope and expectation that encouragement,
succor and support for this transition from a campus
known for academic excellence in business disciplines
to a technologically advanced and superior institution
will as usual be forthcoming spontaneously from
students, alumni, the public and all well-wishers
of our University.

Asia has always responded
positively to challenges, success and crises. Our
theme, the Next Generation of Education in Asia,
is Learning through the Internet.
Asia is currently
facing the challenge of the "Knowledge-based
Economy" and the challenges of innovation and
convergence of new technologies.
As we enter the new
millennium, technological innovations continue to
change and expand. It becomes increasingly necessary
to adopt innovations to keep up with the educational
demands of the 21st century such as the changing
learning environments, distance education, computer-based
course management, and delivery technologies. Information
Technology is the primary engine behind much of
the world's economic growth. The rapid evolution
of the discipline has a profound effect on Information
Technology education.
Global Learn Day is
a 24-hour voyage on distance and eLearning and Assumption
University is the venue for this event in Thailand. |
