we enter the new millennium, technological
innovations continue to change and expand.
It becomes increasingly necessary to adopt
innovations to keep up with the educational
demands of the 21st century such as the
changing learning environments, distance
education, computer-based course management,
and delivery technologies. Information
Technology is the primary engine behind
much of the world's economic growth. The
rapid evolution of the discipline has
a profound effect on Information Technology
education.
Global
Learn Day is a 24-hour voyage on distance
and eLearning and Assumption University
is the venue for this event in Thailand.

The
College of Internet Distance Education
was established in 2002 as a constituent
of Assumption University of Thailand with
the objective of providing opportunity
for greater access to technology and thereby
raising the level of education of people
in all strata of Thai society.
E-learning is “the use of the
Internet and digital technologies to
create experiences that educate our
fellow human beings”(Horton, 2003,
p.2).
The challenge for twenty-first-century
educators is to create a community of
inquiry that integrate social, cognitive,
and teaching characteristics in a way
that will take full advantage of the
unique properties of e-learning, that
is independent of time and space and
with the combination of interactive
and reflective features which will stimulate
and facilitate a level of higher-order
learning unimaginable a few decades
ago.

In my capacity as the Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer, I would like to welcome
all of you to the College of Internet
Distance Education of Assumption University
of Thailand. The College is the first
educational institution in Thailand to
offer complete eLearning degree programs.
In October
2005, the government of Thailand published
a decree in the Royal Gazette making it
legal to offer eLearning degree programs,
learning through the Internet. The College
of Internet Distance Education of Assumption
University of Thailand announced the offering
of two complete degree programs through
the Internet: a Masters of Science in
Management and a Masters of Science in
Information and Communication Technology.
Both programs began to accept applications
for admission on December 1, 2005.
